How do you install an application in Mac OS X Tiger?

Hi, just bought my iMac and it has Tiger on it. I need to know how to install an application like Microsoft Messenger or FireFox on it without having the “disk” on the desktop.

I think All you need to ask is how to install an app on Tiger. The other specs are irrelevant.
This is for Leopard but the same rules apply
I think Open the download and double click on the disk image on the Desktop. Drag and drop the applications icon to the Applications directory. You will need to input your Admin name and/or password to finish the installation.
