How to reduce heat from windows in summer?

Is there a product or process(other than blinds or drapes) for reducing heat coming into my southwest home exposure. The light comes through 2 sliding doors & 8 windows and it gets hot in the afternoon. I want that same heat, however, in the colder months. A canopy or awning and window replacement is also out of the question. Is there window tinting?
