How can I restart Windows 7 without rebooting the PC?

XP and vista can be restarted by holding the shift key when you click restart. This restarts the OS without putting the machine the the whole BIOS and POST process which takes alot of time.

This doesn’t seem to work on Windows 7 RC. Any ideas if this is possible?Submited by:mark_chinsky

How do you install Windows 7 on a PC without an operating system?

I just bought a PC, and to get it cheaper (by £150) I got it without an operating system. I’m going to buy Windows 7 and I’m wondering, how do I install it without an existing OS?

Will I have to install Vista first or can I just unwrap the PC, press the power switch and put the disc in?
